British Superyacht Ambassador Gill Rodrigues recently met with the IGY team at St Katharine Docks to tour the marina’s facilities. Located in the heart of London, St Katharine

Docks provides a unique berthing opportunity for the global yachting community, offering direct access to landmarks such as the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.

As a renowned maritime hub, St Katharine Docks welcomes vessels from around the world, including members of The International SeaKeepers Society DISCOVERY Yacht fleet. The visit provided valuable insights into the marina’s offerings, infrastructure, and commitment to sustainability.

Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability Initiatives

St Katharine Docks has taken a lead in environmental responsibility within the yachting sector. The marina implements a comprehensive environmental policy aimed at preserving water quality and marine ecosystems. A dedicated shoreside cleaning team actively maintains the docks, removing floating debris that enters through the gates and lock system. Additionally, the marina has installed Seabins to filter microplastics and other pollutants from the water, with ongoing monitoring and monthly reporting to local land representatives including CDL.

Berth holders and visitors are encouraged to adhere to sustainable waste management practices. The marina provides an 'in-pontoon' pump-out network, operated by dockmasters, to prevent the discharge of waste into the water, ensuring compliance with best environmental practices.

Commitment to Excellence and Accreditation

In line with its dedication to sustainability, St Katharine Docks is preparing for its prestigious 5 Gold Anchor assessment this year, a globally recognized accreditation for marina excellence. Additionally, discussions are underway with The Yacht Harbour Association (THYA) regarding Clean Marina accreditation, further reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship.

Biodiversity and Marine Life Conservation

Beyond its operational and environmental commitments, St Katharine Docks is home to a diverse range of marine life. The marina’s brackish waters support various species, including large carp frequently seen in warmer months. More recently, resident swans have made the docks their habitat, reflecting the marina’s ongoing efforts to maintain a balanced and thriving aquatic ecosystem.

With its strategic location, excellent facilities, and strong environmental and ocean conservation initiatives, St Katharine Docks is a future venue for a future a British Superyacht event. And the marina’s combination of heritage, sustainability, and accessibility positions it as an ideal setting for the International SeaKeepers Society DISCOVERY Yacht Programme.
